Jang Sung-min to Lee Jun-seok: "Criticize the Government and Ruling Party's Disastrous Quarantine Failures and Hold Them Accountable on Behalf of the People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Jang Sungmin, chairman of the World and Northeast Asia Peace Forum and a former participant in the People Power Party's presidential primary, criticized Lee Jun-seok's disappearance, saying, "I have never seen such an opposition party or met such an opposition party leader in the history of the constitutional government."
On the 30th of last month, Chairman Jang posted an article titled "For the People Power Party, the main opposition party, to become the ruling party" on his Facebook, expressing doubts about the opposition party's identity, saying, "I wonder if this is really an opposition party."
He questioned, "What does the party leader think about while observing state affairs every day? Where and what is the party leader doing every day?" and asked, "How are his words and actions related to restoring the democracy of this collapsing country, rebuilding the market economy, and restoring the deteriorating Korea-US alliance?"
He continued, "Currently, 57% of our people earnestly want a change of government. The opposition party leader must comfort and represent their earnestness," emphasizing, "We must investigate why the people are so desperate for a regime change and soothe, comfort, and care for their burning hearts."
He added, "National support must be gathered for the People Power Party, the main opposition party," and said, "This is the first and foremost mission, responsibility, and duty of the main opposition party leader. Therefore, every word and action of the opposition leader must be based on the people's urgency to achieve the great event of regime change."
Chairman Jang also pointed out, "The second most important task for the opposition leader is to examine the major national agenda caused by the current Moon Jae-in administration's failures, criticize the government's and ruling party's mistakes, and present better policy alternatives to the people, thereby building the image of an alternative party as a ruling party."
He criticized the Moon administration's failed "With Corona" policy by mentioning the new COVID-19 variant "Omicron," saying, "Due to the failed 'With Corona' policy of the Moon Jae-in government, there was a shortage of hospital beds, and when beds were insufficient, the government announced an absurd policy of neglecting citizens' lives by shifting the principle of COVID treatment from medical institutions to home care."
He added, "In short, since hospital beds cannot be secured, the government’s policy is to let patients treat themselves at home, abandoning citizens' lives," and directly criticized, "Despite this worst failure in quarantine, the opposition leader dreaming of ruling is nowhere to be seen. There is no criticism of the government's failed quarantine policy or alternative policies from him."
Chairman Jang sharply questioned Lee, "Is he an opposition leader dreaming of ruling or one who has given up on regime change?" and raised his voice, saying, "Now, Lee must stand at the forefront of the party, criticize the government's and ruling party's disastrous quarantine failures, question them on behalf of the people, and propose reasonable alternative policies."
He also emphasized, "The most important task for Lee is to endure, tolerate, and integrate everything for regime change, uniting the support of all 52 million citizens so that they choose the People Power Party, which Lee is responsible for," and added, "Then, this support must be fully mobilized to choose Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party’s presidential candidate, to finally achieve regime change. Therefore, the party leader must be more cautious and thoughtful in words and actions."
Finally, he said, "I hope 36-year-old Lee grows into a truly mature future leader because he has exceptional potential," and concluded, "However, such talent can become a fatal mistake if he meets the wrong mentor."
Earlier, Lee posted short messages on his Facebook the previous afternoon, saying, "Then this is it," and "^_^p" consecutively. It is known that he canceled all scheduled events afterward, turned off his phone, and disappeared. Some speculate that Lee might be making a "major decision," including resigning as co-chairman of the election committee or party leader.
Meanwhile, Lee recently expressed public dissatisfaction after being notified late of Yoon's visit schedule to the Chungcheong region, saying, "At least, please ask me before announcing the schedule that 'Lee Jun-seok is going' and let me decide." Also, controversy arose over the "passing" issue when Professor Lee Soo-jung of Kyonggi University's Department of Criminal Psychology joined the election committee despite Lee's opposition.
