[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheolin] Gyeongsangnam-do held the 20th Economic Innovation Promotion Committee meeting on the 30th at Changwon Convention Center.
At the meeting, the committee shared the discussion results on major issues in Gyeongnam such as carbon neutrality and climate crisis response strategies, and the cultivation of smart talents in information and communication and software, and reviewed the operational achievements of each subcommittee.
In particular, the Gyeongnam-type New Deal Subcommittee stood out by implementing the nation's first local government-led sustainable management consulting project to enhance the ESG response capabilities of mid-sized and small businesses in the province, planning to conduct on-site consulting for a total of 42 companies by the end of this year.
The Digital Innovation and Knowledge Service Subcommittee focused on discussing measures to revitalize technology startups through the convergence of manufacturing and platform companies, digital transformation of manufacturing, discovering new food industries after COVID-19, and activating regional tourism using the metaverse (extended virtual world).
In the subsequent discussion, opinions were expressed on topics such as ‘Measures to Seek New Paths for Gyeongnam Manufacturing’ by committee member Jang Seokin, ‘Future of Gyeongnam Manufacturing through Digital Transformation’ by committee member Yoo Namhyun, and ‘New Value Creation through the Convergence of Manufacturing and Service Industries in Gyeongnam’ by committee member Kim Hyuk, forming a consensus among attending members.
Park Jongwon, Deputy Governor for Economy of the province, said, “There have been achievements where policies proposed by the committee, such as Gyeongnam-type sustainable management (ESG), have been reflected in actual provincial administration,” adding, “Although Gyeongnam’s economy has seen continuous export growth since March, to proactively respond to the restructuring of the industrial structure after COVID-19, we are promoting the advancement through convergence of key industries and information and communication technology, and steadily fostering new growth industries such as future cars, hydrogen, and bio to diversify the industrial ecosystem.”
