[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and other local governments, the total number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide from 0:00 to 18:00 on this day was 2,473. This is an increase of 662 cases compared to the same time the previous day (1,811 cases). This figure includes confirmed cases from all 17 cities and provinces nationwide, including Busan, which did not release interim data from the 1st to the 28th.


Excluding Busan, the number is 2,338, which is 180 fewer than a week ago on the 23rd (2,518 cases excluding Busan).


Looking at recent trends in confirmed cases, the number of tests decreases on weekends, leading to a drop in cases at the beginning of the week, followed by a sharp increase from midweek. Since there is still time until midnight when the data is finalized, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0:00 on the 30th is expected to increase further.


By region, 1,722 cases (69.6%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 751 cases (30.4%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, Seoul reported 1,080 cases, Gyeonggi 372, Incheon 270, Busan 135, Gyeongnam 107, Chungnam 91, Gyeongbuk 88, Gangwon 74, Daegu 68, Chungbuk 37, Daejeon 36, Jeonnam and Jeju 27 each, Jeonbuk 25, Gwangju 18, Sejong 13, and Ulsan 5, with confirmed cases reported in all 17 cities and provinces.


The number of new confirmed cases over the past week from the 24th is as follows: 4,115 → 3,938 → 3,899 → 4,067 → 3,925 → 3,309 → 3,032, averaging about 3,755 cases per day. Excluding imported cases, the average number of locally transmitted confirmed cases is about 3,729 per day.
