If Daily Construction Workers Voluntarily Report Fraudulent Receipt of Retirement Allowance, Criminal Punishment Will Be Exempted

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Construction Workers’ Mutual Aid Association announced that it will operate a voluntary reporting period next month during which daily and temporary construction workers and employers who have fraudulently received retirement mutual aid funds can avoid criminal punishment by voluntarily reporting the facts.

During this period, workers and employers who voluntarily report fraudulent receipt of mutual aid funds will only be required to return the amount fraudulently received and will be exempt from double repayment and criminal penalties. If it is discovered during the investigation that voluntary reporting was not made, strict measures such as double repayment collection and criminal punishment will be enforced. Typical types of fraudulent receipt include false work, false retirement proof, and embezzlement by others.

Among the seven branches and centers nationwide, individuals can visit the nearest location or download the report form from the Mutual Aid Association’s website and submit it by mail or fax. It is also possible to access the 'Construction Workers Hanaro Service' to submit an online report form and deposit the full amount of fraudulently received mutual aid funds into the repayment account. Han Seungmin, head of the Mutual Aid Association’s Customer Welfare Team, said, “We will conduct systematic investigations to respond to fraudulent receipt in order to enhance the transparency of the retirement mutual aid system,” and added, “We hope that those who have fraudulently received funds will correct their mistakes during this period and avoid greater disadvantages.”

The Mutual Aid Association operates a 'Mutual Aid Fund Fraud Reporting Center.' If you know of any cases of fraudulent receipt or causing others to receive mutual aid funds, you can report them to the center. The identity of the reporter is strictly protected, and if fraudulent receipt is confirmed as a result of the investigation, a reward of up to 500,000 KRW will be given.
