[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Minister of Unification Lee In-young emphasized that the current situation on the Korean Peninsula is once again at the "beginning of change," and whether it moves toward a cycle of peace or prolonged deadlock depends entirely on our actions.
In his congratulatory speech at the "2nd MBN-East Asia Institute Diplomatic Strategy Symposium" held on the morning of the 30th at the Glad Hotel in Yeouido, Minister Lee stated, "Whether we will further build on the momentum of dialogue to move toward a greater 'cycle of peace,' or whether the deadlock will prolong and new tensions will increase in Northeast Asia, now depends entirely on what we do."
Minister Lee assessed, "The significant uncertainty in the Korean Peninsula situation that increased greatly in 2020 has relatively stabilized as of 2021, and the inter-Korean communication line was reconnected and is operating normally since early October, maintaining at least the foundation for inter-Korean dialogue," emphasizing, "The situation on the Korean Peninsula is once again positioned in a fluid state that could be the 'beginning of change.'"
He continued, "Our government will neither rush nor hesitate to do what must be done during the remaining term, and will make every effort until the end to create a peaceful situation on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "I hope that the next administration’s foreign strategy will also seek changes trusted by the international community, changes that resonate with the people, and changes that the North responds to."
