Kooksoondang Launches New Rice Makgeolli

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Kooksoondang announced on the 30th that it will improve and newly launch ‘Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli,’ a makgeolli brewed with domestically produced rice, as an eco-friendly product.

Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli enhances the smooth flavor of makgeolli through three fermentation processes. Additionally, the packaging has been improved with consideration for the environment and product quality. The existing colored PET bottles have been changed to transparent PET bottles, and a label covering the entire bottle has been applied to block quality degradation caused by light, maintaining the best taste. As part of ESG management, a perforation line has been added to the label to facilitate easy separation and recycling.

With this, Kooksoondang has completed the renewal of its main makgeolli products, including the product improvement of ‘Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli’ carried out in June, the ‘Uguksaeng’ version of Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli, and now the ‘Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli.’ The improvements include taste enhancement through brewing method improvements, eco-friendly packaging, and a unified design applied to major products.

‘Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli’ has steadily gained popularity since its launch in 2007. In particular, not only PET bottles but also canned products have been released, expanding consumer choices through differentiated volume and portability. It is brewed at the clean region Hoengseong Brewery in Gangwon-do using domestically produced rice and applying the traditional ‘raw rice fermentation method’ restored by Kooksoondang. Unlike the typical method that requires heating to cook steamed rice, this process minimizes nutrient destruction and contains a large amount of amino acids and vitamins. The shelf life is one year from the manufacturing date.
