[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The prosecution investigating allegations of preferential treatment and lobbying in the Daejang-dong development project in Seongnam City has requested a pre-arrest warrant for former lawmaker Kwak Sang-do.
On the 29th, the dedicated investigation team at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Team Leader Kim Tae-hoon) announced that they filed a pre-arrest warrant around 4:30 PM on the same day against former lawmaker Kwak on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (accepting bribes through mediation).
The interrogation will be held on the morning of the 1st of next month before Judge Seo Bo-min, who is in charge of warrants, just two days after summoning former lawmaker Kwak as a suspect for questioning.
The investigation team believes that former lawmaker Kwak received 5 billion KRW through his son under the pretext of severance pay and other fees as a reward for helping Hwacheon Daeyu, which entered the Daejang-dong development project, form a consortium with Hana Bank. Former lawmaker Kwak is known to have denied the charges, stating that he neither helped Hwacheon Daeyu nor was in a position to do so during the previous investigation.
