Naver Launches 'Clova Care Call' AI to Check Emotional Well-being of Elderly Living Alone

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver announced on the 29th that it has launched ‘CLOVA CareCall,’ an AI service that checks on the well-being of elderly people living alone and helps provide emotional care.

CLOVA CareCall is an AI service that calls elderly people living alone who need care, checks their condition on topics such as meals, sleep, and health, and naturally continues the conversation based on their responses. For example, if asked, “What kind of food do you usually enjoy?” and the answer is “I eat kimchi,” the service follows up with, “Do you make kimchi yourself?” It also appropriately responds by echoing or adding interjections to the answers.

The ability of the AI to understand unstructured conversations and interact naturally is due to the application of ‘HyperCLOVA’ technology. CLOVA CareCall is the first domestic AI call service to apply large-scale AI technology. Developing an AI conversation model requires vast amounts of training data, and HyperCLOVA’s technology was used to generate this data. The HyperCLOVA-based speech recognition ‘NEST’ engine is also applied to provide a more natural conversational experience.

Naver plans to expand the service nationwide to major local governments after starting a pilot service in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
