Implementation of Headquarters Office in Virtual Space
Creating a Communication Platform Without Time and Space Constraints
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] CJ Group's food ingredient distribution and group catering specialist CJ Freshway is strengthening communication with MZ generation employees by utilizing the metaverse. The metaverse is a social media platform that combines 'Meta,' meaning transcendence, and 'Universe,' meaning the real world, allowing users to engage in virtual worlds through avatars.
On the 26th, CJ Freshway used the metaverse platform 'Gather Town' to conduct a communication program including education on the company's mission and vision and an online gathering for about 60 employees with 2 to 3 years of experience. Employees participated in the program from their homes wearing group uniforms made of eco-friendly recycled materials.
CJ Freshway faithfully recreated the interior of its headquarters office within the metaverse virtual space. When employees gathered at specific spaces such as tables arranged in the office, they could communicate with each other via video calls. This was designed to enable free communication without time and space constraints during the COVID-19 pandemic, when in-person office training was difficult, and to provide employees who do not work at headquarters with an opportunity to virtually visit and experience the headquarters office.
Employees of CJ Freshway who entered the metaverse platform as avatars explored and shared their thoughts on the recently declared company mission, vision, and business strategies through various games such as OX quizzes and escape room games.
Following this, CJ Freshway employees held an online gathering with CEO Jeong Seong-pil and management from each department. CEO Jeong Seong-pil and the management team engaged in interactive video communication with employees in a relaxed atmosphere, discussing topics such as skill development, the future, and working methods. The management listened to employees' concerns about company life and offered sincere encouragement and advice based on their own experiences and know-how. Meanwhile, CJ Freshway provided participants with drinks and snacks to enjoy at home during the online gathering, as well as hoodies made from recycled plastic materials.
