Relocation to Jongno Play Star Tower in Inui-dong, Jongno-gu
Strengthening Employee Cohesion and Work Efficiency
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Daesang announced on the 29th that it has relocated its headquarters from its building in Sinseol-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, to the Jongno Play Star Tower located in Inui-dong, Jongno-gu. This marks the end of the 48-year "Sinseol-dong era" and the beginning of a new "Jongno era."
The Sinseol-dong building was completed and occupied in 1973 by the late founder Lim Dae-hong and has been used for the past 48 years. Following the frugal spirit of founder Lim, the exterior has never been changed since its completion. However, in 2013, the interior was remodeled once to improve the working environment for employees. Even after Honorary Chairman Lim Chang-wook succeeded the chairmanship in 1987, the founder maintained a deep attachment to the building, keeping a research lab behind it where he continued studying traditional fermented pastes such as gochujang and doenjang.
Daesang had operated offices in Sinseol-dong, Sangbong-dong, and Gwanghwamun, but as the company gradually expanded, it decided to relocate its headquarters. On the occasion of its 65th anniversary, the company plans to consolidate its scattered departments to strengthen cohesion and improve work efficiency.
The Jongno Play Star Tower, where Daesang is establishing its new base, is a building with 4 basement floors and 14 above-ground floors, located near Jongno 5-ga Station on Subway Line 1. Daesang will lease seven floors in total (approximately 3,819 pyeong of exclusive area), including basement level 1, floors 2 to 6, and floors 13 to 14. About 840 headquarters employees, excluding the sales division, will work at the new Jongno headquarters.
The new headquarters was designed to improve work efficiency and employee welfare. To facilitate flexible and smooth communication among employees, the office partitions were lowered. Various convenience facilities for employee welfare, such as a cafeteria, snack bar, health clinic, moms' room, and daycare center, were also provided. The range of workspaces was expanded to include open lounges for working in a relaxed atmosphere beyond personal spaces, as well as focus rooms for individual concentration, offering various sizes and structures of work areas.
A Daesang official stated, "Along with changing our CI to leap forward as a new 100-year company on our 65th anniversary, we have relocated our headquarters. With departments that were scattered now gathered in one place, we expect smoother communication among employees and the creation of synergy effects."
