Human Rights Commission to Hold 'North Korean Human Rights International Symposium' on 29-30


[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The National Human Rights Commission of Korea will hold the '2021 International Symposium on North Korean Human Rights' over two days, from the 29th to the 30th, at the International Conference Hall and Press Conference Room of the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.


The symposium will proceed with an opening ceremony and two sessions. The first session on the 29th will feature presentations and discussions on the theme of 'Improvement Tasks and Directions for the National Action Plan (NAP) on North Korean Human Rights.' The second session on the 30th will address 'Tasks and Directions for Promoting Human Rights in the Settlement Process of North Korean Defectors.'


The Commission stated, "Based on the principles of universality and interrelatedness of human rights, we plan to explore ways to improve North Korean human rights and enhance the protection of human rights for North Korean defectors in cooperation with international human rights organizations and experts, including the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross."
