A Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Strikes Northern Peru

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck northern Peru at 5:52 a.m. local time on the 28th, according to major foreign media citing the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (ESC) analyzed the earthquake's magnitude as 7.3. The USGS estimated the epicenter depth at 112 km, while the Peruvian Geological Institute analyzed it at 131 km.

The Peruvian Civil Defense Institute reported no damage identified so far. The Associated Press, citing local media, reported that a 14-meter-high church tower, preserved for over 400 years, collapsed.
