Proceeding by Four Zones Including Hongjecheon, Noksapyeong Station, Yeouido, and Dorimcheon Under the Theme of 'Public Art Sharing and Communication'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 29th that it will produce leaflets and videos to introduce public art works discovered by the '2021 Public Art Citizen Discovery Group' throughout Seoul to the general public, and post them on Instagram, YouTube, and the Seoul city website.
Started in 2016, the 'Public Art Citizen Discovery Group' has so far found over 380 hidden public art pieces within Seoul, informing citizens about them. Additionally, it is a citizen participation project that proposes and shares directions for public art in Seoul from the citizens' perspective.
The '2021 Public Art Citizen Discovery Group' discovered about 30 works according to sub-themes in four areas: Hongjecheon, Noksapyeong Station, Nodeulseom & Yeouido, and Dorimcheon & Gwancheon-ro, under the theme of 'Sharing and Communication of Public Art.' Especially this year, in collaboration with the Seoul Business Agency, video content was produced with professional YouTube creators, and the discovery group members participated in programs where they appreciated the works with family and friends and created drawings, picture maps, and card news.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to open the metaverse booth, which exhibited videos and various creative works at the performance sharing event, to citizens starting from the 29th.
Lee Hye-young, Director of the Seoul Design Policy Division, said, “This year’s Public Art Citizen Discovery Group was meaningful in that citizens actively created various content beyond just appreciating public art,” and added, “We plan to operate various programs so that public art can continue to be a citizen-inclusive endeavor, and we ask for much interest in Seoul’s public art.”
