Residents Create 'Jinhae Maeul Radio'... Special Guest Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Residents of Jinhae-gu, Changwon City, Gyeongnam, have launched a community media called 'Jinhae Maeul Radio' and held a public broadcast to celebrate its opening.

On the afternoon of the 27th, Changwon City held a public broadcast commemorating the launch of the community media 'Jinhae Maeul Radio' at Jinhae Station Square in Jinhae-gu. The event was also streamed live on YouTube at the same time.

Invited guests included Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon, Woo Soon-gi, Director of Jinhae Cultural Center, and Jeong Yeong-seop, Jinhae Station Master.

The public broadcast featured various discussions under themes such as 'J Joa Jinhae Joa', 'Memories of Jinhae Station', and 'Do You Know Jinhae Maeul Radio?'.

Participants expressed hopes that "it becomes a broadcast enjoyed by residents" and urged that it contribute to revitalizing the original downtown area of Jinhae as a community media that conveys and connects local voices.

Jinhae Maeul Radio, the first community media introduced in Changwon, began broadcasting last September. It can be watched as a visual radio through the YouTube channel 'Jinhae Maeul Radio' and listened to via the Podbbang app.

The production team consists of 14 Jinhae residents from a wide age range of 20s to 70s, including housewives, students, and office workers with various occupations.

They upload programs introducing local attractions, history, books, etc., about once a week. Each episode is around 10 minutes long. The radio studio is installed at Jinhae Station.

As part of the urban regeneration project, the city decided to foster community media and invested about 30 million KRW to support studio installation and broadcasting equipment.

Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, "I hope Jinhae Maeul Radio strengthens communication among residents and serves as a gathering place where affection and good stories are shared."
