The Elected Official "Strives to Amend Article 27, Paragraph 1 of the Public Labor Consultant Act"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Lee Hwang-gu, the representative labor attorney of Jijeong Labor Law Firm, has been elected as the 19th President of the Korea Certified Labor Attorneys Association. Upon his inauguration, Lee stated that he would strive to amend laws related to job restrictions on non-labor attorneys drafting documents on behalf of others.
The Labor Attorneys Association announced on the 26th that Lee was elected president with a support rate of 87.2% in the 19th executive election held over three days starting from the 24th. Out of 3,334 eligible voters, 2,086 participated in the election. Lee's term will last for two years, from next year until 2023. He will work alongside labor attorneys Song Chi-kyung and Park Sa-young, who ran as vice president candidates, for two years. Labor attorneys Moon Sang-min and Ham Ji-ho were elected as the 19th auditors.
Lee said, "I will push for the deletion of the proviso in Article 27, Paragraph 1 of the Certified Labor Attorney Act and boldly pursue securing the right for labor attorneys to represent clients in criminal complaints, which has long been a wish of labor attorneys." Article 27, Paragraph 1 of the law prohibits non-certified labor attorneys from reporting, applying, reporting, testifying, requesting, drafting documents, and conducting labor management diagnoses for workplaces with five or more employees covered by the Labor Standards Act.
Lee added, "I will operate the association transparently based on the principle of openness and prioritize improving job opportunities and business environments for junior labor attorneys," and "I will carefully reflect the demands of corporations, individual offices, general members, experienced staff, and recruited labor attorneys to enhance member services."
Lee graduated from Korea University with a degree in law and completed a master's degree at the same university's graduate school. He is currently the representative labor attorney of Jijeong Labor Law Firm. He has served as director of system improvement and director of education and training at the Labor Attorneys Association. Song graduated with a master's degree from Sungkyunkwan University's College of Law and is active as the representative labor attorney of Labor Law Firm Bisang. Park graduated from Kyungpook National University with a degree in business administration and is currently the representative labor attorney of Labor Attorney Office Hayul.
