Complete Sell-Out of Tofu and Muk at Yeongju City Hall in Just 2 Hours
On the 24th, Yeongju City Hall held a sales promotion event for tofu and buckwheat jelly from 'Halmae Mukgongjang'.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 24th, a promotional event for products from Halmae Mukgongjang Social Cooperative was held at the cafeteria of Yeongju City Hall, Gyeongbuk.
The 160 blocks of tofu and 170 blocks of muk prepared over two days were all sold out within two hours of the event.
The city planned the event to support ‘Halmae Mukgongjang,’ which is facing economic difficulties due to the impact of COVID-19, and to boost the morale of the elderly.
Halmae Mukgongjang is a community workshop built as an urban regeneration leading project after being selected in 2014 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s public contest.
The cooperative was established with 15 elders from Guseong Village as registered directors, producing tofu and buckwheat muk daily using locally produced soybeans and buckwheat.
It is regarded as a representative success case of urban regeneration projects, having received the Grand Prize for Resident Participation at the 2015 Urban Regeneration Festival, the Grand Prize at the 2017 Village Enterprise and Community Festival, selection as an excellent case by the Balanced Development Committee and Board of Audit and Inspection in 2018, the Excellence Award at the 2019 Local Government Policy Conference, and the Public Sector Grand Prize at the 2020 Urban Regeneration Industry Expo.
Chairperson Kwon Bunja said, “Thanks to the active cooperation of Yeongju City Hall, all the muk and tofu were sold out,” adding, “We hope everyone enjoys a happy meal with our delicious muk and tofu.”
