[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The first regional election campaign committee for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, will be launched on the 28th in Gwangju.
On the 25th, the Democratic Party's Gwangju City Party announced that in line with Lee's intention to reform the campaign committee, young people in their 20s and 30s have been fully appointed as campaign committee chairpersons.
Among the 10 co-chairpersons, all except Song Gap-seok, the chairman of the Gwangju City Party, are young people, including a high school senior aged 18 who has voting rights.
The gender ratio is balanced with five women and five men.
Not only the campaign committee chairpersons but also Kang Soo-hoon (38), head of the Gwangju City Party's presidential pledge planning office, was appointed as the standing campaign headquarters chief who will practically lead the election, and young people were prominently placed in key positions such as spokespersons.
Six members of the National Assembly from the Gwangju region, excluding Chairman Song, decided to support the young campaign committee by taking responsibility for regional activities as standing advisors to the campaign committee.
Key figures such as former Gwangju Mayor Park Kwang-tae, former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Kang Ki-jung, and former National Assembly members Jo Young-taek and Jeon Gap-gil were appointed honorary campaign committee chairpersons, and the campaign committee was formed as a melting pot by including supporters from the camps of candidates Lee Nak-yeon, Chung Sye-kyun, and Kim Du-kwan, who competed with Lee during the primary.
The Gwangju campaign committee launch ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 28th at the 4th-floor convention hall of the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, and Lee is expected to attend in person.
