[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] It has been confirmed that Park Sang-ah, the second daughter-in-law of the late Jeon Du-hwan, who passed away on the 23rd, was belatedly added to the name board at Jeon's funeral hall.
On the 24th, the name board in front of Jeon's funeral hall at Seoul Sinchon Severance Hospital listed the names of the chief mourners: his wife Lee Soon-ja, eldest son Jae-guk, second son Jae-yong, third son Jae-man, and daughter Hyo-sun. Additionally, the names of 11 grandchildren were also displayed.
Until the morning of that day, among Jeon's daughters-in-law, only Jung Mo, the wife of Jae-guk, was listed, while the names of Park and the third daughter-in-law Lee Mo were missing.
However, the exclusion of these names from the chief mourners' list appears to be a simple mishap.
According to multiple media reports compiled that day, Jeon's bereaved family entrusted the funeral company with preparing the funeral hall, during which the names of the second and third daughters-in-law were omitted from the electronic board. It is generally known that when the list of daughters-in-law is long, only the eldest daughter-in-law's name is sometimes recorded on the funeral hall's chief mourners' list.
Park had registered her marriage with Jeon's second son Jae-yong and then left for the United States, returning in 2007 to hold a formal wedding ceremony.
Park, who won the grand prize in the first KBS Super Talent Contest and began her acting career in 1993 with the film "Watercolor on a Rainy Day 2," has since marriage occasionally appeared only in entertainment and advertisements.
The couple appeared on the Far East Broadcasting Company's program "People I Want to Meet, Stories I Want to Hear" in March to share updates on their lives. During the broadcast, Jeon revealed that he was studying theology at a seminary to pursue a path as a pastor.
Regarding this, Park said she initially opposed her husband's graduate school enrollment, stating, "People like us, who are obviously sinners, want to hide the fact that we believe in God, and for him to even do ministry seemed like it overshadowed God's glory too much."
Jeon explained the reason he began studying theology: "During the 2 years and 8 months I spent in prison, I heard the sound of hymns outside the bars. It turned out that someone in the prison's religious room was singing. It brought me to tears," adding, "I developed a desire to praise and worship, which led to my decision."
Previously, in August 2015, the Supreme Court upheld the original sentence of 3 years imprisonment with 4 years probation and a fine of 4 billion won against Jeon, who was indicted on tax evasion charges.
Jeon was prosecuted for drafting a down contract when selling forest land in Osan City, Gyeonggi Province, in December 2006, evading tens of billions of won in capital gains tax.
