"Three Days After Moderna Second Dose, 'Vegetative State'... Son's Plea to Save Him Sparks Outrage in Blue House Petition"

[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A story has been shared about a healthy man in his 30s with no underlying conditions who became a vegetative state after receiving the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

On the 23rd, a petition titled "Please save my son who became a 'vegetative state' just three days after the second Moderna vaccination" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.

The petitioner’s son, Mr. A, received his second Moderna shot on the 28th of last month. On the day of vaccination, Mr. A told acquaintances that he felt "pain" and "fatigue," but there appeared to be no serious abnormal symptoms.

However, three days later on the 1st, Mr. A suddenly collapsed on the street due to cardiac arrest. A passerby found him around 9 p.m. that day and reported it, and he was rushed to the hospital, but the family was told by medical staff that "he arrived at the emergency room after the golden time had already passed."

Mr. A is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit and has undergone a procedure to insert a breathing tube as he is unable to breathe independently. Medical staff told the petitioner, "There is significant brain damage," "The possibility of regaining consciousness is very low," "However, since the patient is young and healthy, long-term treatment may be necessary."

Medical staff conducted examinations of the brain, chest, and abdomen and determined that "there is no cause for cardiac arrest and no underlying conditions," and have reported the case as an adverse reaction to the vaccine to relevant authorities.

The petitioner stated, "The public health center said they received documents such as a medical certificate and doctor's opinion from the attending physician and forwarded them to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, but currently, due to the high number of COVID-19 vaccine adverse reaction reports, it takes about two months to receive results."

He continued, "My healthy 37-year-old son, who is 181 cm tall, has been lying in a vegetative state for over 20 days after receiving the Moderna vaccine to stay healthy. All the time of my kind son, who was a great support and protector of our family, has come to a halt."

Meanwhile, as of 3 p.m. on November 24, the petition had gained the support of 6,388 people.
