- Fairy tale-like scenes conveyed with the colors of love and Chagall-like imagination
- Mythical messages told by the great storyteller Chagall
The "Chagall Special Exhibition (Chagall and the Bible)" themed around the "Bible" will be held at My Art Museum starting from the 25th.
My Art Museum announced that it will hold a retrospective exhibition of Marc Chagall, a painter who left a mark in art history with his unique themes and painting style, titled "Chagall Special Exhibition, Chagall and the Bible," from November 25th this year until April 10th, 2022. The exhibition focuses on the "Bible," which was the most important source of artistic creation for Chagall.
Marc Chagall, born in Russia and settled in France, is loved as one of the greatest painters of the 20th century alongside Picasso and Matisse, conveying messages about life and love through his vibrant colors and dreamy painting style.
Unlike previous Chagall exhibitions held several times in Korea, this exhibition features the theme of the "Bible," which has not been addressed alone before, and displays 19 masterpieces including oil paintings and gouaches such as "Resurrection on the Riverbank" and "Blue King David," owned by Chagall’s family. It also showcases two large tapestries nearly 4 meters in size, revealed for the first time in Asia, and a total of over 220 original works from the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso M?nster in Germany.
During the time Chagall painted works themed on the Bible, he developed his artistic world based on love for humanity suffering from war and massacre. This exhibition will offer a warm experience at the end of this year, appreciating Chagall’s message of love for humanity conveyed through the Bible.
Additionally, to help visitors feel more familiar and enjoy the Bible paintings, an audio clip content will be introduced in collaboration with artists and Genie Music, allowing visitors to listen to audiobook stories while viewing the artworks.
Moreover, a visitor participation program called "My Own Chagall Atelier" provides a space where visitors can create their own works by stamping motifs inspired by Chagall.
Furthermore, audio guides and docent-led exhibition explanations are available to enhance understanding of the artworks. Various educational and cultural programs linked to the exhibition, such as kids’ ateliers and seasonal event promotions, will also be offered for children.
Meanwhile, the "Chagall Special Exhibition, Chagall and the Bible" is hosted by My Art Museum and TV Chosun, organized by My Art Museum, and sponsored by TV Chosun Media Rep. The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with last admission at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased and reserved through Naver and other platforms.
