[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Seoul is rapidly increasing. The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the number of new confirmed cases in Seoul was tentatively counted at 1,509 over 21 hours from midnight to 9 p.m. on the 23rd.
This figure surpassed the previous record of 1,380 cases on the 16th, which was the highest tentative count for the same time period, breaking the record within a week, and also exceeded the previous highest daily record of 1,436 cases (on the 16th).
Since there are still 3 hours left in the counting period, the total number of confirmed cases for the entire day is expected to exceed 1,500.
Comparing the tentative count at 9 p.m. on the 23rd with the same time on the previous day (the 22nd), there was a sharp increase of 435 cases from 1,074.
The total daily confirmed cases in Seoul recorded 1,221 on September 24, then showed a lull before soaring again to 1,004 on the 2nd of this month. On the 16th, the number reached 1,436, setting a new record about two weeks after the phased recovery to normal life (With Corona) was implemented, and remained in the 1,400 range for three consecutive days until the 18th.
Afterwards, the numbers decreased to the 1,300 range on the 19th and 20th, the 1,200 range on the 21st, and the 1,100 range on the 22nd, but the daily record for each day of the week continues, and the spread is not subsiding.
As of 9 p.m. on the 23rd, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul was tentatively counted at 144,422.
The final tally of the total confirmed cases for the day will be compiled as of midnight on the 24th and announced in the morning.
