[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, PD Yoon Jin-geun, Intern PD Lim Hye-won] Jeon Du-hwan, who served as the 11th and 12th President, passed away on the 23rd at the age of 90.
Jeon passed away around 8:40 a.m. at his home in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Earlier, Jeon had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in August and had been undergoing treatment.
According to the bereaved family and others, Jeon collapsed inside his home on that day, and the police and fire department were notified around 8:55 a.m. The police confirmed his death around 9:12 a.m.
The body was soon transported to Sinchon Severance Hospital. The bereaved family and related parties bowed their heads in silence as the deceased was moved onto the hearse.
Jeon's funeral will be a private family ceremony, and according to his will, the body is expected to be cremated. The funeral hall for Jeon will be prepared in Special Room 1 on the second basement floor of Sinchon Severance Funeral Hall, timed to coincide with the return schedule of his third son, Jeon Jae-man, who resides in the United States.
Meanwhile, the Blue House announced that there will be no official floral tributes or condolence plans from the Blue House regarding Jeon Du-hwan's death. Blue House spokesperson Park Kyung-mi said during a briefing at the Chuncheon Press Center in the afternoon, "We pray for the repose of former President Jeon Du-hwan and extend our condolences to the bereaved family."
