Full-Scale Promotion of Drone Operation Business Demonstration in Special Drone Deregulation Zone
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 23rd that it will actively promote the demonstration of long-distance cargo transport to inhabited islands within the drone special deregulation zone in collaboration with Jeonnam Technopark and participating companies.
The long-distance cargo transport to inhabited islands is a demonstration project for medium-sized drone delivery utilizing Goheung's geographical advantage of having multiple inhabited islands. It aims to transport 20kg-class cargo such as medicines and parcels over long distances to small inhabited islands with inconvenient transportation conditions.
SM Soft Co., Ltd. and Marine Robotics Co., Ltd., participating in the demonstration, completed the inspection of drone bodies and started the actual demonstration of crossing about 4 km of sea from Deukryangdo, Doyang-eup to Janggyeri pier using delivery drones.
SM Soft Co., Ltd. succeeded in delivering an 8 km distance within the demonstration zone by drone carrying a 4 kg item across Deukryangdo, and Marine Robotics Co., Ltd. successfully delivered items weighing 2 kg, such as sweet and sour pork and cola, across Deukryangdo by drone without damage.
A county official stated, “By 2022, we will support active demonstrations not only for long-distance cargo transport to inhabited islands within the drone special deregulation zone but also for integrated flight demonstrations of medium to large unmanned aerial vehicles and ultra-wide-area (beyond visual line of sight) quarantine demonstration fields.”
