Vice Minister for Trade Meets Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade to Request Supply of Urea

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Jeong Daejin, Deputy Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, requested cooperation on the import of urea and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) from the Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.


According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 23rd, Deputy Minister Jeong met with Vasily Shibak, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul.


Deputy Minister Jeong explained the difficulties in the supply of urea and DEF for domestic vehicles and asked for the interest and cooperation of the Russian government, a major producer and exporter of urea.


The two sides also discussed cooperation in electronics and material components between the two countries. Deputy Minister Shibak highly praised Korea's technology and experience in the electronics and semiconductor sectors and expressed a desire to further expand cooperation between the governments and companies of both countries in the future. Deputy Minister Jeong evaluated the potential for cooperation in electronics and material components with Russia, which possesses a high level of basic science, core technologies, and excellent talent, and proposed reviewing cooperation opportunities at the upcoming "10th Korea-Russia Industrial Cooperation Committee" scheduled for December.


Subsequently, Deputy Minister Jeong and Deputy Minister Shibak attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd Korea-Russia ICT and Material Components Investment Forum, sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and hosted by the Korea-Russia Business Council (KRBC). They held discussions with institutions and businesspeople from both countries on cooperation plans and potential in the field of innovative technologies.


Deputy Minister Jeong emphasized, "The government will actively operate government-to-government cooperation channels such as the 'Korea-Russia Industrial Cooperation Committee' to expand future industry and technology cooperation between the two countries, and will spare no support necessary to expand private business exchanges."
