[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 23rd that it was selected as a meritorious institution in the 'Population and Housing Census Division' at the 2021 Large-scale Statistical Survey Awards hosted by Statistics Korea, receiving a commendation from the Minister of Strategy and Finance.
The large-scale statistical survey is a nationwide survey conducted every five years to understand the status of population, households, agricultural, forestry and fishery households, and economic conditions, serving as basic data for various national and local government policy projects.
This year's large-scale statistical survey awards were given to institutions and individuals who successfully carried out the '2020 Population and Housing and Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Census' and the '2021 Economic Census.'
The city celebrated a double honor as, in addition to the institutional award, Kim Kyung-sun, former head of the Population Policy Team (currently head of the Public Relations Team) in the Planning and Budget Office, and Kim Hyung-min, an administrative officer, received commendations from the Minister of Strategy and Finance in the individual category.
The city actively utilized non-face-to-face surveys to prevent COVID-19 infection during the Population and Housing Census, conducting internet and telephone surveys targeting 18,685 sample households within the jurisdiction.
For non-participating households, surveyors directly visited households and conducted face-to-face interviews using tablet PCs, completing the survey of all sample households without any issues, which was recognized as a meritorious achievement.
The award ceremony for meritorious institutions in the large-scale statistical survey is scheduled to be held at the regular meeting next month.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, "I thank the staff and surveyors who actively carried out their duties considering the safety of respondents despite the difficult conditions caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "We will do our best to discover policies and provide administrative services that fit the local population situation through the establishment of a data-based system from the survey results."
