The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 23rd that the Gyeongbuk Tangible Cultural Property 'Gyeongju Guhwang-dong Dangganjiju (慶州 九黃洞 幢竿支柱)' has been renamed 'Gyeongju Bunhwangsa Dangganjiju' and designated as a national treasure. It is a Dangganjiju erected between the south entrance of Bunhwangsa and Hwangnyongsa. It is presumed to have been erected for use at Bunhwangsa. A Dangganjiju is a support structure set up at the entrance of a temple to hang flags. The Gyeongju Guhwang-dong Dangganjiju was made during the Unified Silla period. It is similar in construction technique and style to those of major temples in the Gyeongju area, and it is uniquely valuable as it retains the only turtle-shaped base stone, making it worthy of treasure status.
