[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Jeong Yong-jin, vice chairman of Shinsegae Group and owner of the professional baseball team SSG Landers, will receive the '2021 Nanuri Hospital Ilgu Award' from the Ilguhoe, a corporation of Korean professional baseball OB members.
On the 23rd, Ilguhoe announced, "We have selected owner Jeong Yong-jin as the recipient of the Ilgu Award," adding, "Since acquiring the SK Wyverns last January, owner Jeong has continued to make impressive moves."
Ilguhoe also stated, "Owner Jeong Yong-jin has shown exceptional passion and interest in baseball, especially revealing his determination to build the Cheongna Dome Stadium, which combines shopping and a theme park, and has worked to develop a KBO League business model. If realized, this plan will mark a turning point in the professional baseball business model."
Vice Chairman Jeong has repeatedly expressed his enthusiasm for baseball through his social network service (SNS) accounts such as Instagram and Clubhouse. In February, with the launch of SSG Landers, he attracted baseball fans' attention by signing major leaguer Choo Shin-soo. During the season, he visited the stadium several times to watch games, sent messages of support to players who performed well, and showed his affection for baseball by personally cooking for them.
The award ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on the 9th of next month at the Versailles Hall on the 3rd floor of the Riviera Hotel in Seoul.
Ilguhoe plans to select and award winners in nine categories, including the Ilgu Award, Best Batter, and Best Pitcher. The winners of each category will be announced on the 25th.
