[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Singer Kim Gun-mo (53), who was accused of sexual assault, has been cleared of charges. Meanwhile, the YouTube channel 'Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon),' which raised the allegations, announced that it will appeal after releasing a recorded phone conversation with the accuser.

Gaseyeon, operated by CEO Kim Se-ui and lawyer Kang Yong-seok, released a video titled "Victim's Emotional Confession: Kim Gun-mo's Rape is True" on the 18th. The video contained a phone interview with Ms. A, the woman who filed the complaint against Kim.

Ms. A said, "It's absurd. I'm not even sure if the investigation was thorough," and added, "The facts are clear. I don't understand how such a result came out. Is the decision of no charges a proven fact?"

She continued, "Whether it's a bar worker or just any woman, a woman should not behave like that toward a man, right? Because he committed an act that should not be done, I have suffered psychological damage for several years and have always lived in hardship. This result doesn't seem right."

In response, Gaseyeon stated, "We heard about the decision of non-prosecution today. We will review the reasons for non-prosecution and devise countermeasures," adding, "Don't be too disappointed. We will appeal and win."

Earlier, in December 2019, Gaseyeon raised allegations through a broadcast that Kim sexually assaulted Ms. A at an entertainment establishment in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in August 2016.

Subsequently, Gaseyeon cast members and Ms. A filed a complaint against Kim Gun-mo, and the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul began an investigation on December 9, 2019. On March 25 of last year, they forwarded the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.

However, on the 18th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office decided not to prosecute Kim, who was sent on charges of sexual assault, after a resolution by the Prosecutors' Citizen Committee.

Meanwhile, Kim has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation since the incident surfaced. After a 12-hour police interrogation last year, he expressed hope that "the truth will be revealed as soon as possible."
