[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Engineering announced on the 18th that it received the 'Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute Director Award' at the 20th Korea Safety Awards ceremony in recognition of the excellence of its eco-friendly fire-fighting equipment with zero greenhouse gas emissions.


The equipment introduced by Samsung Engineering uses a high-pressure fine mist extinguishing method to suppress fires in industrial electrical rooms. This method sprays ultra-fine mist particles, which are tens of times smaller than regular water droplets, onto the flames to maximize the reaction surface area, thereby extinguishing the fire through cooling and oxygen deprivation.


The company explained that this method effectively prevents fire spread by overcoming the drawbacks of the previously used HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) gas extinguishing system, and it can reduce installation space and costs. Additionally, it added that since this eco-friendly method emits no greenhouse gases during the extinguishing process, it is expected to contribute to the national carbon neutrality goals.


Earlier, Samsung Engineering introduced the high-pressure fine mist extinguishing technology to Korea through a strategic technical partnership with an overseas specialized company, and in May, it became the first in the country to obtain design performance recognition from the Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute.


A Samsung Engineering official stated, "We will strive to expand domestic distribution through the commercialization of the high-pressure fine mist extinguishing method."
