[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Qualcomm announced on the 16th that it has promoted Oh-Hyung Kwon, President of Qualcomm Korea (pictured), to Senior Vice President of Qualcomm Headquarters and President of the Asia-Pacific region.
Oh-Hyung Kwon, the new President of the Asia-Pacific region, will be responsible for the entire Asia-Pacific region except China and India. He will assume his new position immediately upon this announcement and will report directly to Jim Cash, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm Headquarters and Head of Global Business Operations.
Oh-Hyung Kwon joined Qualcomm in 2007 as Director of Korean Sales at Qualcomm Headquarters in San Diego, USA, playing a key role in driving major accounts across Qualcomm’s mobile, computing, infrastructure, RF front-end, connectivity, Internet of Things, and automotive businesses. In 2012, he officially moved to the Korean office, serving as Executive Director of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) Korea Mobile/IoT Sales and Vice President in charge of Korean Sales. In 2019, he was appointed Vice President of Qualcomm Headquarters and President of Qualcomm Korea.
During his tenure, he strengthened the sales and Customer Engineering (CE) organizations supporting the expansion of Qualcomm Korea’s customer base and technology portfolio, sought supply chain stabilization, and enhanced the capabilities of product marketing and carrier support departments.
Jim Cash, Head of Qualcomm Global Business Operations, said, "Oh-Hyung Kwon, the new President of the Asia-Pacific region, led a strong sales and CE organization and raised the standard for premium mobile experience and performance in the global telecommunications market alongside key customers. He established a leading business platform for the entire product portfolio of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies."
Before joining Qualcomm, Oh-Hyung Kwon was responsible for mobile phone development certification and launch at Sprint’s device division in the United States. He also served as Head of the Americas division at Isotelcom and held sales positions at LG Electronics in the US and Japan, building his expertise as a telecommunications and international sales professional. He graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Education in 1996 and earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2008. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM).
