According to the electric vehicle specialty magazine Electric on the 14th (local time), Tesla has been delivering some 'Model 3' and 'Model Y' vehicles without C-type USB ports to customers. Electric analyzed this as a result of the semiconductor shortage crisis.
On social media (SNS), since the 11th, Tesla buyers have posted that they received vehicles without USB ports, and some have expressed complaints that the phone charging pads are also not working.
Some buyers were informed of this fact before vehicle delivery, but it is reported that some customers received incomplete vehicles without any prior notice.
Electric reported that Tesla's position is that once parts are secured around next month, they will install the USB ports later.
German BMW and American General Motors (GM) have also recently been delivering vehicles excluding touchscreens or charging pads due to the semiconductor shortage crisis.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) introduced that as the outlook for the semiconductor shortage continuing until next year becomes more prevalent, manufacturers are seeking second solutions such as delivering products missing some parts like Tesla or reducing semiconductor usage through redesign.
Bose Product recently switched the electronic handheld controller that controls the blades of snowmobiles back to the old joystick method.
T3 Motion, which produces electric patrol vehicles used in airports and universities, chose to redesign the product to reduce the number of semiconductors installed.
According to WSJ, Polaris, a snowmobile manufacturer, is delivering products to customers without large GPS screens that are out of stock for now, on the condition of later installation, similar to Tesla.
