Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association Expands Export Channels at Europe ECOC 2021 Exhibition

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association (Chairman Jeong Cheol-dong) announced on the 14th that it is working to open overseas markets for domestic optical communication products.

The Photonics Industry Promotion Association participated in a joint pavilion with 11 Korean companies at 'ECOC 2021,' Europe's largest optical ICT industry exhibition held in Bordeaux, France, from September 13 to 15.

There, they actively supported marketing activities in the European region and the optical communication field by promoting the excellence of domestic optical network-based products and new technologies and assisting local buyers with export consultations.

Through participation in this exhibition, the 11 participating companies conducted export contract consultations worth $26.37 million, and four companies including Sunil Telecom Co., Ltd. signed purchase contracts worth $1.4 million for optical cable connection boxes and optical cables, achieving tangible results.

Even after the exhibition, five companies including Neon Photonics Co., Ltd. (CEO Choi Woong), Goryeo Otron, Sunil Telecom, Xbeam Tech, and Geocie continued online consultations with overseas local buyers discovered at ECOC 2021 through follow-up support from the Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association, successfully concluding additional contracts worth $3.06 million (approximately 3.6 billion KRW).

Among them, Xbeam Tech Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Haeng-jeong) showcased a high-reliability optical-electrical hybrid connector series at the exhibition, proving the excellence of domestic optical communication technology, and is currently progressing with export contracts totaling $130,000 and annual supply contracts worth $250,000 through participation in the exhibition.

Another company, Talents Co., Ltd. (CEO Jeong Ji-young), is in the process of purchase contracts with overseas buyers established at ECOC 2021 for optical tracer products such as transceiver patch cords, and plans to invite these overseas buyers to the '2021 Optical Convergence Industry Roadshow' to finalize purchase contracts.

In this way, the Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association is inviting overseas buyers secured at overseas exhibitions to the '2021 Optical Convergence Industry Roadshow,' held for two days from the 24th to 25th at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju, providing additional export consultation opportunities for companies and promoting the activation of overseas marketing strategies for domestic companies.

The Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association participates annually in the ECOC exhibition with a joint pavilion for domestic optical convergence industry companies, bringing practical results and increased sales to the companies.

'ECOC 2022' is scheduled to be held for three days from September 19 to 21 next year in Basel, Switzerland. It is Europe's largest optical communication exhibition with about 6,500 participants from 330 companies in 90 countries, featuring high-speed data processing devices and peripherals based on optical ICT technology. The Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association has contributed to the continuous expansion of overseas export channels for domestic optical communication companies by organizing a joint pavilion as Korea's representative for four consecutive years.

Exhibitions planned for joint pavilion participation by the Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association in the first half of next year include Photonics West, OFC, Communic Asia, Arab Health, and Light&Building. Due to high demand and enthusiastic participation from companies compared to joint pavilion booths, many companies are on waiting lists.

Cho Yong-jin, the full-time vice chairman, said, “Despite difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing economic recession, the excellence of domestic optical communication technology has been recognized by local buyers,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create tangible sales effects for companies.”

He also stated, “To proactively respond to the rapidly changing overseas export environment, we will not only participate in overseas exhibition joint pavilions such as SPIE 2022, OFC 2022, Arab Health 2022, and LB 2022 in the first half of next year but also continuously operate non-face-to-face year-round 365 export consultation meetings to diversify and strengthen export support for small and medium-sized enterprises.”
