Unisem Reports 10.9 Billion KRW Operating Profit in 3Q, Up 104% YoY... "Customer Foundry Facility Investment Expansion"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Unisem, a specialized company in semiconductor and display equipment, continued its performance growth in the third quarter.

On the 12th, Unisem announced that its consolidated third-quarter sales reached 69 billion KRW, and operating profit was 10.9 billion KRW. These represent increases of 50.5% and 104.0% respectively compared to the same period last year. Quarterly net profit rose 100.1% to 8.8 billion KRW.

Unisem is a specialized company in scrubbers, which are harmful gas treatment equipment generated during semiconductor and display production processes, and chillers, which are temperature control devices. It supplies equipment to leading domestic and international companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, LG Display, and BOE.

In the third quarter, demand for scrubbers and chillers surged due to comprehensive facility investments by major clients. Both memory and foundry sectors continued large-scale investments. Samsung Electronics alone spent 10.2 trillion KRW on facility investments in the third quarter.

Starting from the fourth quarter, equipment orders are expected to pour in from the display industry. LG Display is expanding its investment in the Paju P9 plant's 6th generation OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode), and Samsung Display has also begun expanding investment in the Asan plant's 6th generation OLED.

A company official stated, “Since the display companies’ investments aim to start operations in the second half of next year, equipment supply is expected to be completed before then,” adding, “In the semiconductor industry, benefits are expected from the expansion of foundry facility investments by major clients.”
