Healing Travel Spot Hampyeong 'Chrysanthemum Festival by Day, Movie Viewing by Night'

Korea National Chrysanthemum Festival and Drive-in Theater Recommended as Safe Travel Destinations for COVID-19

Healing Travel Spot Hampyeong 'Chrysanthemum Festival by Day, Movie Viewing by Night'

[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] How about heading to Hampyeong this weekend with your family, friends, or loved ones to enjoy the ‘Korea Chrysanthemum Festival,’ the nation’s representative autumn chrysanthemum festival?

The wide fields of Hampyeong are filled with chrysanthemum flowers and large sculptures, chrysanthemum exhibitions, as well as various attractions where visitors can stay day and night, such as Hampyeong Cheonji-gil trail near the festival site, a drive-in theater, and the Expo Park nightscape.

On the 12th, Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced that it recommends the area around Hampyeong Expo Park, the main venue of the Korea Chrysanthemum Festival, as a healing cultural tourism spot where visitors can enjoy the scent of chrysanthemums during the day and watch movies at the Hampyeong Drive-in Theater in the evening.

First, at the Hampyeong Expo Park, the festival site, sculptures such as a globe hand model, sea turtles and fish, and a dream tree of hope will be installed, along with over 600 nightscape sculptures.

A bonsai exhibition hall showcasing the charm of chrysanthemums through artworks and a gallery of the Korea Chrysanthemum Club’s works are also separately prepared. Media art (media facade) exhibitions are planned for the festival’s representative sculpture, the ‘Globe Hand Model.’

The media facade will be performed daily during the festival from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM for about two and a half hours.

Additionally, nightscape lighting decorated with chrysanthemums will be added throughout the Expo Park area, presenting a unique, light-filled view of the park to visitors of all ages even after sunset.

In particular, the Korea Chrysanthemum Festival site is connected to the ‘Hampyeong Cheonji-gil’ (a 6 km walking trail) established in the first half of this year, offering visitors a premium walking course.

‘Hampyeong Cheonji-gil’ is connected through three themes: forest trail, ecological trail, and urban garden trail. Visitors can walk through the Susanbong forest trail, dawn redwood path, contemplation garden, love garden, rose garden, pine tree path, and wisteria path.

Watching a movie inside a car after evening hours offers a different kind of enjoyment.

Hampyeong County opened the ‘Hampyeong Drive-in Theater’ at the Expo Park’s Hwangso parking lot in January this year and currently operates two screening rooms. New movies are released weekly, attracting attention from local residents and tourists as a non-face-to-face cultural spot.

County Governor Lee Sang-ik emphasized, “Since the 7th local government, Hampyeong County has been making various attempts to become the ‘number one destination for stay-type tourism.’ We hope you enjoy healing by viewing the festival site, Hampyeong Cheonji-gil, and nightscape lighting, and also enjoy watching movies at the drive-in theater to make the most of your weekend in the with-COVID era.”

Meanwhile, the 2021 Korea Chrysanthemum Festival, themed ‘Coexistence of Earth and Humans,’ is being held until the 21st at Hampyeong Expo Park and the Hampyeong-eup downtown area.
