Cryptocurrency Wallet Kaikas Users Hacked... Police Launch Investigation

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A user of Kaikas, the cryptocurrency wallet service of Kakao subsidiary Klaytn, has filed a complaint with the police claiming to have been a victim of hacking.

According to the police on the 12th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul received a complaint from user A, who reported a hacking loss of approximately 170 million KRW worth of cryptocurrency, and has launched an investigation.

On the 9th, A confirmed that 170 million KRW out of 180 million KRW worth of cryptocurrency deposited in Klaytn’s DeFi service, KlaySwap, had been leaked. DeFi refers to blockchain technology that is not controlled by central institutions such as governments or corporations. As long as there is an internet connection, financial transactions such as payments, remittances, deposits, loans, and investments can be conducted without involving financial companies.

The cryptocurrency deposited by A was reportedly withdrawn and transferred to an exchange located in China.

The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
