[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Hyundai Card launched the 'Hyundai American Express Card' on the 11th, a premium card brand that inherits the authenticity of American Express, a global payment network company.
This card comes in three types: The Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, and Amex Green Card. It is issued as a Centurion design card featuring the Centurion (Roman military commander) image, the representative symbol of American Express, and is available to both individual and corporate members.
Notably, it is the first in Korea to offer unlimited 'Membership Rewards' with no accumulation limits or expiration dates. Most card companies' rewards are limited by a 5-year validity period or have accumulation limits based on usage conditions.
Membership Rewards is a global rewards program exclusively for American Express card members, operating since 1991. The Hyundai American Express Card offers unlimited Membership Rewards valued at approximately 10 KRW or more per 1MR, providing various usage benefits never before seen domestically.
First, the Membership Rewards accumulation rate is outstanding. The Platinum card earns 1.5MR per 1,000 KRW spent, Gold earns 1MR per 1,000 KRW, and Green earns 1MR per 1,500 KRW. Special usage categories such as overseas merchants, hotels, and golf offer up to 3 times MR accumulation without limits.
Bonus rewards are also provided based on annual spending. Customers who spend over 1 million KRW in the first year of issuance receive an additional 100,000MR (equivalent to 1 million KRW) for Platinum, 30,000MR (300,000 KRW) for Gold, and 10,000MR (100,000 KRW) for Green.
Global usage options have been greatly expanded. Hyundai American Express Card's Membership Rewards can be exchanged for mileage in 16 global airline alliance programs including Delta Air Lines and Korean Air, or membership points in 6 hotel chains such as Marriott and Hilton, and reservations at over 550,000 hotels worldwide are possible. All services related to Membership Rewards are accessible via the online homepage 'My Amex Rewards.'
Hyundai American Express Card members can enjoy various premium benefits including worldwide hotel and airport usage and access to Golf Space Iron & Wood. Airport limousine, hotel and airport valet parking services, and airport lounges are available free of charge. Additionally, discounts based on spending are offered at more than 20 hotel restaurants and delis.
Additional benefits are provided according to card tier. Gold and Platinum members receive 4-star hotel room upgrades and hotel credits usable during stays. Platinum members are also granted access to the 'Centurion Lounge,' an airport lounge exclusive to American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders. They can also enjoy room upgrade services at over 1,000 luxury hotels worldwide and elite hotel memberships (Hilton Gold, Marriott Gold, Radisson Gold).
The annual fees are 1,000,000 KRW for Platinum, 300,000 KRW for Gold, and 100,000 KRW for Green. Metal card plates are provided free of charge once for Platinum and Gold card members.
A launch commemorative event is also underway. Customers who sign up for Hyundai Card for the first time through the Hyundai American Express Card and spend over 1 million KRW by December 31 will receive an additional 10,000MR (equivalent to 100,000 KRW).
There are also various specialized benefits for corporate members. Corporate employees holding personal Hyundai American Express Cards can combine Membership Rewards accumulated on corporate cards with those on personal cards for use. Travel insurance (up to 800 million KRW) for comfortable travel and business trips is provided, and for the first time domestically, liability insurance (up to 50 million KRW) protecting corporations against fraudulent use of corporate cards by employees is offered.
