[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Pulmuone participated in China’s largest-scale expo to promote its flagship products.

On the 11th, Pulmuone announced that it participated for the fourth consecutive year in the “China International Import Expo” held in Shanghai, China, to promote Korean food culture and Pulmuone’s sustainable products.

The China International Import Expo, held from the 5th to the 10th, is China’s largest-scale expo proposed and planned directly by President Xi Jinping. The expo attracted a wide range of visitors, from general consumers to government officials from various countries, buyers, and manufacturing sectors.

A total of 3,000 global companies from 127 countries participated, and approximately 400,000 professional buyers visited. Among them, 139 Korean companies took part.

Pulmuone operated a standalone booth called the “Pulmuone Promotion Hall” with the same 108㎡ size as last year, promoting Korean food culture, Pulmuone’s principles of proper food, and flagship products. About 40,000 visitors, including over 4,000 who sampled products during the six days, visited the Pulmuone Promotion Hall.

This year at the expo, Pulmuone introduced more than 30 products in four categories to the Chinese market, focusing on sustainable foods, frozen home meal replacements (HMR), pasta, and health foods.

The sustainable foods included plant-based alternative meat snack products produced at local Chinese factories, dumplings and pasta made with plant-based alternative meat, soy products, and high-protein cube tofu, tofu crumble rice bowl sauce, and tofu bars, which were first launched in Korea and are now being prepared for commercialization in China.

Hit Korean frozen HMR products such as hot dogs and Yalpi dumplings (thin-skinned, fully stuffed dumplings), as well as pasta products, which are the main products of Pulmuone’s Chinese subsidiary, were also introduced. Notably, this year, Pulmuone Health & Living’s Chinese local subsidiary Pumeituoerhuo introduced probiotic and enzyme-containing health foods at the expo for the first time.

At the expo, mala-flavored dumplings and hot dogs made with plant-based alternative meat, as well as kimchi fried rice using Yalpi kimchi dumplings, received high praise from on-site visitors. Interest was also high in Pumeituoerhuo’s probiotic and enzyme health foods, which were introduced for the first time at this year’s expo.

Pulmuone provided tastings twice a day with a famous chef cooking on-site, and communicated with visitors both online and offline by live streaming the booth on the social media channel TikTok.

Du Jinwoo, CEO of Pulmuone’s Chinese subsidiary Pumeituo Foods, said, “We have participated in China’s largest expo for four consecutive times, eliciting strong responses from local visitors,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote Korean food culture and sustainable products in the Chinese market.”

Meanwhile, Pulmuone established “Pumeituo (圃美多) Foods” in Beijing and Shanghai in 2010 and began targeting the Chinese market in 2011. The popularity of convenient spaghetti and tofu flagship products, along with frozen home meal replacements (HMR), led sales, and the company recorded its first profit in China last year, 10 years after entering the market.
