Let's Become Kanbu in Yeouido!... Yeongdeungpo-gu Holds 2nd Boom-Up Project 'Play Scape'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The front yard of Shin Young Securities in Yeouido (16, Gukjegeumyung-ro 8-gil) is transforming into a joyful playground.

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) announced that the second boom-up project of the 2021 Yeouido Town Management, ‘Play Scape,’ will be held for two days from the 11th to the 12th in front of Shin Young Securities.

Town Management is an event promoted to create a space for communication and harmony among various stakeholders living in the Yeouido financial center, fostering mutual understanding and revitalizing the area. Following the Cinema Scape event held in June at the same location, which featured an outdoor cinema, city camping zone, and urban garden rest areas and received great responses from visitors, this is the second project prepared.

The front yard of Shin Young Securities, where the event will take place, was provided free of charge through the ‘Yeouido Town Management Regional Council Participation Agreement’ signed in June by Yeongdeungpo-gu, Shin Young Securities, and From Co., Ltd. to discover and promote sustainable regional revitalization projects.

This event will be composed of a traditional games festival that is more active and leaves a special experience for participants, along with a 3D trick art photo zone.

With 20 to 30 applicants gathered through on-site registration, games will be played including ▲Mugunghwa Kkotchi Pieotseumnida (The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed), ▲Ddakjichigi (Korean traditional card flipping game), ▲Guseulchigi (marble game), and ▲Jegichagi (Korean traditional shuttlecock kicking), which are traditional Korean games featured in the Netflix hit drama ‘Squid Game.’

To vividly recreate the excitement and tension of the drama ‘Squid Game,’ event staff will wear pink outfits and partially adopt the game progress methods from the show.

Additionally, a 3D trick art exhibition inducing optical illusions will be displayed, and a photo zone will be operated where anyone can freely stop by to take pictures and create joyful memories.

Since the purpose of the event is to promote and enjoy the charm of Yeouido together, about 20 photos themed on Yeouido will be exhibited to allow visitors to appreciate Yeouido from a new perspective. A visitor survey on the ‘Yeouido International Financial Center’ will also be conducted to collect on-site opinions and prepare improvement plans and promotional strategies.

The operating hours of Play Scape are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., subject to adjustment depending on weather conditions.

To prevent the possible spread of COVID-19, the district will strictly enforce quarantine measures such as visitor QR check-in, temperature checks, and hand sanitization. The number of participants will be limited to under 99, and quarantine staff will be assigned to maintain order among participants.

After the event concludes, the venue will be cleaned and disinfected to minimize inconvenience to residents.

Going forward, the district plans to focus on ‘governance-type’ urban management operations that enhance regional revitalization and urban vitality through public-private cooperation, in line with the purpose of the Town Management project, which aims to shift urban management from administrative agencies to private-led initiatives.

Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chaehyun Il said, “I hope Play Scape will be a special time where people can run and play together, relieving worries and daily stress caused by COVID-19, and fully experience the diverse charms of Yeouido.” He added, “We will continue to strive to promote the Yeouido Town Management project, breathe new life into Yeouido, and help it grow into a truly global landmark.”
