[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chunhee] As the 'gradual recovery to daily life (With Corona)' measures are implemented, events can now gather up to 99 people regardless of vaccination status, and up to 499 people if the quarantine pass (vaccination certificate or negative test confirmation) is applied. Amid this, health authorities have urged caution regarding private gatherings that have the nature of events.

Son Youngrae, head of the Social Strategy Division at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, said at the regular COVID-19 briefing on the morning of the 10th, "As the year-end approaches, gatherings such as alumni meetings and clubs are increasing in many places," adding, "However, there is confusion between private gatherings and events, so we would like to once again announce the criteria for events under the gradual recovery to daily life." He emphasized, "Private gatherings such as alumni meetings and clubs do not qualify as events," and urged, "The limit on private gatherings must be observed: 10 people in the metropolitan area and 12 people in non-metropolitan areas."

With the implementation of With Corona, events are allowed up to 99 people regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status, and if the quarantine pass is introduced?applicable to fully vaccinated individuals, those with negative PCR test results, persons under 18, recovered patients, and those who cannot be vaccinated for unavoidable reasons?up to 499 people can gather.

Son stated, "Events are recognized as those organized by legal entities such as public institutions or companies, or in other cases, weddings, funerals, receptions, and first birthday parties," emphasizing, "Only gatherings that are not for private social purposes but for achieving the organization's founding objectives, and that meet formal event requirements such as schedules and order of proceedings, are exempt from private gathering size restrictions." In other words, local festivals, briefings, public hearings, debates, commemorative events, training camps, autograph sessions, lectures, competitions, training, as well as weddings, funerals, receptions, and first birthday parties are considered events.

On the other hand, alumni meetings, clubs, and social gatherings among acquaintances are private gatherings that are not included as events, so care must be taken not to mistake social gatherings for events.

Furthermore, even if it is an event, unless it is a case permitted by individual quarantine rules such as weddings or funerals, authorities recommend that events should, in principle, be held without food and drink.

Son added, "Private gatherings such as alumni meetings and clubs do not qualify as events, and the private gathering limits of 10 people in the metropolitan area and 12 people in non-metropolitan areas must be observed," and also stated, "If food and drink must be included unavoidably, even events with fewer than 100 attendees must consist only of fully vaccinated participants."
