[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Silla University swept all the top prizes, including the grand prize, at the Interior Architecture Design Competition with all participating students winning awards.

Silla University announced on the 9th that students majoring in Interior Architecture Design in the Department of Architecture won the grand prize, special prizes, encouragement awards, and honorable mentions at the ‘2021 17th Korea Interior Architects Association (KOSID) Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Chapter Interior Architecture Competition’ hosted by Busan City and the Busan Architecture Festival (BAF).

The competition was held under the theme ‘Spaces to Prepare for Post-COVID-19.’ It was organized to discover creative spatial ideas and innovative concepts from university students both domestically and internationally.

Out of over 130 teams participating, Silla University fielded 7 teams, all of which won awards: 1 grand prize, 2 special prizes, 1 encouragement award, and 3 honorable mentions.

The grand prize went to the team that submitted ‘Neulhaerang,’ a design for a complex community space remodeled from an old farmhouse warehouse.

The team consisted of senior students Lee Ji-seon and Jeon Byung-gyu, and sophomore Moon Ha-rim. They received the grand prize along with a cash award of 5 million KRW and the Busan Mayor’s Award.

The special prizes were awarded to the works ‘Goyangsaenghwa’ by student Son Min-jung and ‘My workplace, my shelter’ by Kim So-yeon and others.

The encouragement award went to the team led by Kim Na-young for ‘Ongojisin,’ while honorable mentions were given to ‘Gyeokjangjirin’ by Park Seo-ha and others, ‘SHEDDING’ by Yoo Ki-moon’s team, and ‘RE:UNION’ by Seo Ji-yoon’s team.

The grand prize-winning work was highly praised for creatively planning a cultural synergy space through the sharing of community spaces for rural residents and workspaces for artists, using innovative experiments and unique approaches.

Additionally, Professor Cha Sang-gi, who supervised the participating teams in the Interior Architecture Design major, received the ‘Outstanding Advisor Award.’

Grand prize winner Lee Ji-seon said, “The professor’s guidance was a great help,” and added, “I will work even harder to grow into a skilled interior designer thanks to this award.”

Professor Cha Sang-gi stated, “Students in the Interior Architecture Design major at Silla University participate in various competitions every year and achieve award-winning results,” and added, “We will passionately support them so they can fully demonstrate their creativity and capabilities.”

The award-winning works will be exhibited until the 14th at the ‘2021 Busan Architecture Festival × Busan Architecture Biennale’ in the central plaza on the second basement floor of Shinsegae Department Store in Centum, Busan.
