Launch of 'Medical Supplies Development Support Public-Private Council' for Quality Control of Masks and Sanitary Pads

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jung] Quality control measures for postpartum pads, newly designated as quasi-drugs along with masks, will be established.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation (NIFDS) announced on the 2nd that they will launch the 'Quasi-Drug Development Support Public-Private Council' on the 5th, together with testing institutions and manufacturers, to improve the safety, efficacy, and quality of quasi-drugs such as masks and hand sanitizers, essential personal hygiene products, and to support the development of new products.

The council will be organized and operated into three divisions: ▲Masks ▲Sanitary pads and postpartum pads ▲Oral care products.

The Masks division will discuss the scope of submission of review materials when using new materials and new ingredients; the Sanitary pads and postpartum pads division will discuss the submission requirements for product approval applications for postpartum pads newly designated as quasi-drugs; and the Oral care products division will identify efficacy evaluation indicators for oral care products such as toothpaste.

The MFDS stated, "We expect that the Quasi-Drug Development Support Public-Private Council will serve as an opportunity to enhance the quality of quasi-drugs by strengthening communication between the public and private sectors across policy, approval, review, research, and manufacturing fields."
