[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 1st that it will offer Onnuri gift certificates at a special 10% discount in celebration of the Korea Sale Festa, which runs until the 15th.

A total of 100 billion KRW worth of certificates will be specially sold from today until the 5th, with the discount rate for paper Onnuri gift certificates increased from the existing 5% to 10%, available until the budget is exhausted. They can be purchased up to a monthly limit of 300,000 KRW at 16 banks including NongHyup, Suhyup, Shinhan, Saemaeul Geumgo, Post Office, Hana, Shinhan, Woori, Kookmin, Daegu, Busan, Gwangju, Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam, and Industrial Bank of Korea. Buyers must present an ID and pay in cash to receive the discount.

The mobile Onnuri gift certificates, launched last year, will also be sold at a 10% discount until the end of the year to promote sales. The mobile Onnuri gift certificates, which are convenient for purchase and use, can be bought through bank apps such as NongHyup (All One Bank), CheckPay, and 22 simple payment apps including Cucon, T-money, and Settle Bank. Discounts are automatically applied up to the monthly purchase limit.

Since 40% of the amount spent in traditional markets (by card or cash receipt) is eligible for income deduction, using Onnuri gift certificates allows consumers to enjoy the benefits of a '10% discount on the gift certificate + 40% income deduction.'

Lee Jun-hee, Director of Traditional Market Promotion at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, "We hope many people will take advantage of this special sale to revitalize traditional markets and shopping districts suffering from COVID-19."
