Sangdo Sarangbang in Dongjak-gu Opens on November 1

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will open the newly remodeled ‘Sangdo Sarangbang’ on November 1st, transforming the old Sangdo 4-dong Community Center building.

The newly opened Sangdo Sarangbang (53 Seongdaero 29-gil) is a generation-integrated complex facility that goes beyond the concept of an open senior center by including a Kiwoom Center.

‘Sangdo Sarangbang’ was remodeled from the aging Sangdo 4-dong Community Center building by reflecting residents' needs through surveys and briefing sessions. The name was selected through a public contest as a unique and friendly name that well represents the characteristics of Dongjak-gu.

With a total floor area of 627.96㎡ and spanning from basement level 1 to the 3rd floor above ground, it consists of ▲1st floor Songhak Senior Center ▲2nd floor dedicated education room and auditorium for senior leisure programs ▲3rd floor Sangdo 4-dong Our Neighborhood Kiwoom Center.

The 2nd floor was created to support healthy aging by operating programs related to seniors’ leisure and cultural activities. Due to the spread of COVID-19 in the second half of this year, programs such as growing companion plants will be conducted using Zoom and YouTube.

The 3rd floor houses the Kiwoom Center, which supports public childcare services for about 30 general children, and plans to run programs aimed at promoting healthy growth of children and reducing parenting burdens for parents.

Operating hours are from 1 PM to 7 PM on weekdays, with flexible operation according to the programs on each floor. For more details, please contact the Senior and Disabled Division of Dongjak-gu Office.

Lee Sun-hee, head of the Senior and Disabled Division, said, “Sangdo Sarangbang has been reborn as a complex facility for all residents including seniors, children, and parents, and will provide welfare and cultural services. We ask residents to take an interest and actively participate.”
