[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Controversy has arisen after it was revealed that an apartment complex classified shower noises as inter-floor noise and prohibited showering after 10 p.m. according to its own regulations.
Recently, a post titled "No Bathing in Our Apartment After 10 p.m." was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, expressed dissatisfaction, saying, "They say it's banned because of inter-floor noise, but that's too harsh. What about people who come home late from working overtime?"
He continued, "I could understand if it were in the early morning, but isn't 10 p.m. the time when most people shower?" and added, "I think they should at least be considerate until midnight."
He also said, "Once, I ignored the rule and took a shower, but the entire apartment was embarrassed by an announcement over the public address system," and "I plan to file a complaint soon."
When a comment asked, "Which apartment sets a specific shower time?" Mr. A replied, "They banned all bathing activities. Showering is only allowed from 6 a.m. to before 10 p.m. I think I'm the only one in this apartment who finds this ridiculous."
Mr. A raised his voice, saying, "They’re not going to adjust my work hours. I've even been targeted on the apartment caf? for the sound of flushing the toilet. It's an old apartment, so the soundproofing is definitely poor, but how much noise can a shower really make? This is a bit much. I think they should at least be considerate until midnight."
Netizens who saw the post responded with comments such as, "I want to shower in my own home; isn't this communism?", "10 p.m. is too early. Isn't that when most people shower?", "I've experienced this too. I felt so self-conscious that I couldn't shower properly," and "If they're that sensitive, they should live in a detached house."
