[Asia Economy Reporter Tae-min Ryu] The Cultural Heritage Committee has decided to "defer review" regarding the construction of apartments around Gimpo Jangneung, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
On the afternoon of the 28th, the joint subcommittee meeting of the World Heritage Subcommittee and the Royal Tombs Cultural Heritage Subcommittee of the Cultural Heritage Committee, held at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul, reviewed the "change of status for the construction of apartment complexes within the Gimpo Jangneung Historical and Cultural Environment Preservation Area" submitted by construction companies and announced this decision. The Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "It is difficult to maintain historical and cultural value with the proposed plan," and added, "Since an in-depth review is necessary by forming a separate subcommittee later, the decision to defer was made."
The Cultural Heritage Administration also stated that the subcommittee to be held in the future will conduct more technical and professional reviews, such as simulations by complex.
