People Power Party Sees Increase in Male University Students Since Lee Jun-seok Era... 'All-Time High'

University Student Committee Membership Reaches 1,321... Over 5 Times Last Year's Number

People Power Party Sees Increase in Male University Students Since Lee Jun-seok Era... 'All-Time High' Lee Jun-seok, Leader of the People Power Party Photo by Yonhap News

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The number of members joining the People Power Party's University Student Committee has reached an all-time high since the party's founding. This figure is five times the number of members from last year, reflecting increased interest from the 2030 generation under Party Leader Lee Jun-seok's leadership. Notably, the majority of new members are confirmed to be male.

According to the People Power Party on the 28th, a total of 1,321 people joined the University Student Committee from July 16 to this date, exceeding five times the number of members who joined last year.

In particular, it was confirmed that the proportion of males among the University Student Committee members is high. A People Power Party official said in a phone interview on the same day, "Almost all applicants are male."

This appears to be influenced by the increase in support from the 2030 generation and male supporters since Leader Lee took office. In fact, among the 265,952 new party members who joined the People Power Party from May 31 to September 27, 71,055 were from the 2030 generation. Previously, Leader Lee sparked a wave of support from 'Idaenam (males in their 20s)' during the last party convention.

Additionally, the number of registered voters who joined by the 20th reached a total of 1,073. Registered voters are granted the right to vote in electing the chairperson of the University Student Committee.

By university, the numbers are Yonsei University (81), Korea University (72), Yeungnam University (68), Kyung Hee University (49), and Seoul National University (44). Universities with more than 40 applicants, the requirement set by the People Power Party for establishing a branch, will have university branches established.

Regarding this, an official stated, "Leader Lee said that once branches are established at eight universities, there will be debate battles by university and policy contests mainly. He intends to create conditions for (young people) to engage in productive activities."
