[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution is reportedly investigating former Seongnam Urban Development Corporation Development Project Director Yuhan-gi (currently president of Pocheon Urban Development Corporation) on suspicions that he received bribes from private developers involved in the Daejang-dong development project.
According to legal circles on the 28th, the dedicated investigation team at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office is verifying facts regarding suspicions that former Director Yuhan-gi received 200 million won from lawyer Nam Wook and accountant Jung Young-hak.
Former Director Yuhan-gi was the head of the department responsible for the practical work of the Daejang-dong development project in 2015 and was considered the second-in-command within Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, following former Strategic Planning Director Yoo Dong-gyu.
Recently released recordings of former Seongnam Urban Development Corporation President Hwang Moo-sung include content where former Director Yuhan-gi forced former President Hwang to submit a resignation letter on behalf of former Director Yoo Dong-gyu and Jung Jin-sang, the policy chief who was a close aide to then Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung.
Allegations of bribery against former Director Yuhan-gi surfaced in the political sphere on the same day. Former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office, stating, "I have received a public interest report that Kim Man-bae of Hwacheon Daeyu handed over several hundred million won to Yuhan-gi in relation to the 2015 Daejang-dong development."
Meanwhile, the investigation team summoned former Director Yuhan-gi on the 13th to conduct an inquiry into the overall Daejang-dong development project. Since former Director Yuhan-gi has been accused of involvement in ousting former President Hwang, the investigation team plans to proceed with additional questioning.
