Jeongeup-si Leads as a Clean City through Renewable Energy Expansion

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is taking the lead in spreading clean energy by expanding the supply of renewable energy.

According to the city on the 28th, it has actively participated in the renewable energy supply projects implemented by the government so far, and is promoting the renewable energy convergence support project this year with a budget of about 1.4 billion KRW.

The renewable energy convergence support project is being carried out as a campaign pledge of the 7th local government administration to expand the supply of renewable energy in line with the government's nuclear phase-out and the ‘Renewable Energy 3020’ policy.

Selected through a public contest by the Korea Energy Agency, this project installs facilities such as solar power or geothermal energy in houses, buildings, and livestock barns, and supports part of the installation costs.

This year, the project is being promoted by selecting a total of 150 households in five towns and townships (Shintaein, Yeongwon, Deokcheon, Ipyeong, and Jeongu areas).

The installation cost for residential solar power (3 kW) is 5.02 million KRW, of which 85% is subsidized by national and city funds.

The city explained that if a 3 kW solar power system is installed, a household with a monthly electricity bill of about 60,000 KRW can save about 40,000 KRW.

Also, when the electricity produced by solar power exceeds the electricity consumption, the surplus electricity is recorded by KEPCO and deducted from the electricity bill in months with higher electricity usage.

This support project is expected to greatly contribute not only to economic benefits through electricity bill savings but also to the convenience of local residents' lives.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, “Renewable energy uses natural power sources, so there is no burden of fuel costs,” and added, “We will take the lead in improving the energy environment by supplying renewable energy facilities through projects such as the renewable energy housing support project.”
