Jeonbuk Province Holds Budget Policy Meeting with Jeonbuk-Affiliated National Assembly Members


[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonbuk Province held a budget policy consultation meeting with National Assembly members affiliated with Jeonbuk on the 28th, requesting their interest and support to secure the maximum national budget for next year and to resolve Jeollabuk-do's pending issues.


At the meeting held in Yeouido, many National Assembly members affiliated with Jeonbuk participated regardless of party affiliation, including Ahn Kyu-baek, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Jong-sung of the People Power Party, and Kim Eui-gyeom of the Open Democratic Party.


Governor Song Ha-jin stated, "Jeollabuk-do is making every effort to draw a new industrial map necessary for the new normal we will face after COVID-19," adding, "Since securing the national budget and legislation are important driving forces for this, I urge the affiliated National Assembly members to unite their efforts to reflect the budgets of Jeollabuk-do's core projects and resolve major pending issues at the National Assembly stage."

At the meeting, Jeonbuk Province requested the division of roles among affiliated National Assembly members by relevant standing committees for strategic responses to major projects that were under- or not reflected in the government budget proposal, and proposed the inclusion of 20 key projects requiring increased budget allocation in next year's government budget during the National Assembly review stage.


The projects proposed for budget reflection by sector include, in the field of industrial structure reinforcement and convergence future new industries, the establishment of a carbon fiber-based hydrogen storage container testing and certification platform, the establishment of a digital twin for renewable energy and an eco-friendly transportation demonstration research base, advanced human resource training for smart manufacturing, and the establishment of a hologram content service support center.


In the agro-biological industry sector, budget reflection was requested for projects such as building an agricultural climate change response education base, creating a national food cluster food park, and establishing an intelligent agricultural machinery demonstration complex.


In the culture and tourism sector, projects such as the construction of the Jeolla Confucianism Promotion Institute, the sacred site development project of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Gochang and Buan, and the creation of the East-West Harmony Yukshipryeong Gaya Village were mentioned. In the Saemangeum and SOC sectors, projects such as the construction of connecting roads within the Saemangeum area, the creation of the Jeonju carbon material smart green industrial complex, and the establishment of a Saemangeum renewable energy landmark were raised.


Additionally, requests for cooperation and support were made for the additional designation of the third financial hub, the reactivation of Hyundai Heavy Industries Gunsan Shipyard, and the early construction of Saemangeum SOC to promote the Saemangeum project with speed.


Jeonbuk Province plans to build a solid cooperative system with the political circles and prepare step-by-step customized strategies to respond fully to the National Assembly standing committee and budget committee reviews following this budget policy consultation meeting.
