Ahead of the UN Climate Change Convention Parties Conference in November
On the 28th, 37 countries including the UK and scientific advisors take action

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] Ahead of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) this November, the world's top scientific advisors have called for the international community's 'scientific and technological' efforts to address climate change.
The UK government chief scientific advisor, the chair country of COP26, announced a "Joint Statement on Science and Innovation for Climate Action" at 12:01 AM local time on the 28th, together with 37 scientific advisors from countries including South Korea, the United States, Japan, and the European Union (EU). From South Korea, Yeom Han-woong, Vice Chairman of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council, participated.
They urged the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to ▲ develop long-term strategies based on scientific evidence to maintain the 1.5℃ target ▲ strengthen international cooperation for research, development, and demonstration of effective mitigation and adaptation solutions ▲ establish programs to enhance international research and innovation capabilities.
Vice Chairman Yeom Han-woong stated, “This message emphasizes the need for more immediate and international responses to climate change, which have already been scientifically proven, and that science and technology should play a more important role in policy decision-making and implementation based on international cooperation.” He added, “I hope South Korea will take a leading role in responding to climate change.”
